The Absolutely True Confession of a Prospective Elementary School Math Teacher
Abstract
This article uniquely recounts, from two very different perspectives, the experience of having a Pop Quiz on the second day of the semester in a mathematics methodology course for prospective elementary school math teachers. First, the instructor of the course, the one who implemented the quiz, details the math anxiety he witnessed for one particular student before, during, and after the quiz. Second, one particular student in the course, the one who experienced the math anxiety observed by the instructor, situates her experience within math anxiety research found in the field of mathematics education. Ultimately, this article is the absolutely true confession of a prospective elementary school math teacher, and, for that matter, a university math methodology instructor.
