  • As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

    The preferred file formats are Microsoft Word (.doc) and Rich Text Format (.rtf).

  • Cover letters accompanying manuscripts must be emailed separately to the editor at the same time as the online submission. Not submitting a letter will result in the manuscript being rejected. The cover letter must include statements indicating

    • Availability and willingness to work closely with a Review Mentor, a Senior Review Editor, and Copyeditors to bring the manuscript to completion under specified deadlines;
    • Intent to translate in a named language;
    • Originality and unpublished nature of the submitted work granting CJNSE/RCJCÉ first publication rights;
    • Agreement not to publish the same manuscript elsewhere, in whole or part, for one year after publication; and
    • Copyrights to any materials in the included manuscript.

Author Guidelines

  • CJNSE/RCJCÉ invites manuscripts from Canadian graduate students or international students studying in Canada that present an investigation into an issue in education or offers a reflection on aspects of educational theory and research.
  • CJNSE/RCJCÉ publishes original research articles, position papers, literature reviews, and book reviews.
  • Authors, including co-authors, must be currently registered as graduate students—studying in Canada or Canadians studying abroad—at the time of submission.
  • Manuscripts are formatted to the standards of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th edition).
  • Manuscripts should not exceed 5,000 words in length (including quotations, notes, and references). Book reviews should not exceed 2,000 words. Please provide the word count on the title page.
  • All manuscripts (excluding book reviews) must include an abstract of 100-150 words.
  • CJNSE/RCJCÉ is a non-masked peer-reviewed journal; therefore, it does not require that manuscripts be submitted with an anonymous title page. Authors must include their name(s) and full contact information on the title page of their manuscript. Where a manuscript has multiple authors, a lead author must be designated as the person with whom the Managing Editor will correspond throughout the review/manuscript development process.
  • CJNSE/RCJCÉ publishes electronically twice annually. Authors whose submission is assessed as Revisions Required (an acceptance pending revisions) must confirm their availability and willingness to work closely with a Review Mentor and Senior Review Editor to bring their manuscript to completion under specified deadlines. In most cases, authors need to be able to commit to working closely with these review editors for approximately 4-6 weeks.
  • Manuscripts may be submitted in English or French. After an accepted manuscript has been developed to its publishable state, an author may, if they wish, translate the manuscript into another language for co-publication in the same issue. Publication of manuscripts in languages other than English or French will be subject to a final review by an independent reviewer and the availability of suitable reviewers may limit CJNSE/RCJCÉ’s ability to publish in some languages/dialects.
  • Authors are requested to declare in the cover letter accompanying their submission their intent to translate the completed manuscript (if other than English or French), and clearly state the language used in the co-published manuscript.

Below are the Review Forms used to evaluate submitted manuscripts. Please ensure your submissions take the criteria into consideration.
