Equality and Justice in Education

Abstract

The issue of justice in the education systems is at the core of debates in countries the world over. Justice is historically linked to the concept of equality, but what should be equalized when it comes to education and how?  Literature that examines these questions is abundant, but it is not without tension. Drawing from the research of selected authors, I have grouped different terms related to equality when it comes to justice in education, to further link them to philosophical approaches. Without wanting to fall into the trap of affixing labels which are often looked upon as reductive, this article aims to highlight the different philosophical considerations mainly mobilized in the debates surrounding educational justice. In the end, it is an invitation to expand the frame of reference with regards to interpreting the justice of education systems.
