This paper discusses the thought of Giovanni Gentile, philosopher, minister for education under Mussolini, and Fascist polemicist. It examines his epistemology and his philosophy of the person and of society, looking for the grounds for his adherence to Fascist policy in his political stance and some aspects of his educational ideas. It is concluded that his political stance was by no means an unavoidable conclusion from his general philosophical position.Downloads
