Faculty of Education and the Development of a Body of Knowledge of Teaching

This article shows and argues that it is not clear whether or not there is now established a body of knowledge of how to teach and which knowledge is being transmitted to students of Faculty who, presumably , will become school teachers. If this is so, then, Faculty of Education, as a member of an academic community, the University, fails to fulfill one of its tasks, namely, to transmit knowledge. Consideration of the possible components of such a body of knowledge follows. The development of such a body of knowledge is the one distinctive contribution of Faculty of Education to the University and to the teaching profession.Downloads
