The purpose of this article is to review studies of parental participation in schooling processes. In the beginning we will see, from a historical angle, the evolution of the role of parents in the schooling process. Next, we will examine the principal research trends on the subject. The third section will be dedicated to a classification of different types of parental participation. In the fourth, we will examine the crucial role of teachers in the intensive involvement of parents in schooling. Finally, the conclusion will be the occasion to situate the theoretical stakes that this subject brings to educational sciences.
