About the Journal

Scope and focus

The Journal of Military and Strategic Studies is an open-access and peer-reviewed publication that aims to disseminate original scholarship in strategic and military studies to an academic audience, as well as a public one, both nationally and internationally, and to provide a forum for the discussion of issues related to security, broadly defined. It approaches these topics from an academic position, open to all sectors of opinion, rather than one of advocacy. It includes editorials, independent and critical, on matters of current affairs, but its editorial stance is distinct from its academic one.

The Journal of Military and Strategic Studies does not charge to publish any manuscript.

Open Access

The Journal of Military and Strategic Studies is completely open access. Open Access is the condition where the copyright holder of a scholarly work grants usage rights to others using an open license (Creative Commons or equivalent) allowing for immediate free access to the work and permitting any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose.

Copyright Statement

The author(s) hereby assign worldwide copyright of the Work in all forms and media (whether now known or hereafter developed), in all languages for the full term of copyright and all extensions and renewals thereof, to the Journal of Military and Strategic Studies.

Licensing

The Journal of Military and Strategic Studies applies the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY ND) license to articles and other works we publish. If you submit your paper for publication by JMSS, you agree to have the CC BY ND license applied to your work. This license allows reusers to copy and distribute the material in any medium or format in unadapted form only, and only so long as attribution is given to the creator and the original source. The license allows for commercial use.  This facilitates freedom in re-use and also ensures that JMSS content can be mined without barriers for the needs of research.

Repository Policy

This journal permits and encourages authors to post pre-print items submitted to the journal on personal websites or institutional repositories both prior to and after publication, while providing bibliographic details that credit, if applicable, its publication in this journal.

Plagiarism

The Journal of Military and Strategic Studies regularly checks submissions for instances of plagiarism. Plagiarism involves submitting work in a manuscript as if it were your own work when, in fact, it is not. Most commonly plagiarism exists when:

  • The manuscript submitted was done, in whole or in part, by an individual other than the one submitting or presenting the work.
  • Parts of the work are taken from another source without reference to the original author, and/or
  • The whole work is copied from another source.

While it is recognized that scholarly work often involves reference to the ideas, data and conclusions of other scholars, intellectual honesty requires that such references be explicitly and clearly noted.

All authors that submit manuscripts to the Journal of Military and Strategic Studies are, by that act, asserting that the piece of written work is the result of their (and all co-authors) own independent scholarly work and that, in all cases, material from the work of others (in books, articles, essays, dissertations, and on the internet) is acknowledged, and quotations and paraphrases are clearly indicated.
