The Sanctions on Iraq: Some Issues for an Inquest
Abstract
The paper briefly examines some issues arising with respect to the economic sanctions imposed on Iraq, particularly their objectives, targets, and effects. It suggests that the sanctions are failing, at high cost to the people of Iraq, to achieve their objectives under SC Resolution 687, and for that reason should be removed or considerably modified. This, however, will leave the issue of Iraq's non-compliance with SC Resolution 687 unresolved, and other measures will therefore be required.Downloads
