LTC (GS) Dr. Martin Hofbauer, Military History Research Office, Bundeswehr

Martin Hofbauer joined the German Bundeswehr in 1989. He completed officer training in the Mountain infantry in 1992 and was awarded a Master’s degree in History at the University of the Bundesehr in Hamburg in 1996. From 1996 to 2001, he served as platoon leader and company commander in the Mountain infantry corps. In 2001, he became a research associate of the University of Hamburg and a professor of Medieval History. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Hamburg in 2005. In 2005 he served as S3 staff officer and deputy battalion commander in the Mountain Infantry Corps. From 2007-2008, he attended the Generalstabs-/Admiralstabsdienst course with international participation at the Leadership Academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg, Since 2008, he has been a research assistant at the Military History Research Institute and since 2010, he has served as head of the operations Support Module.
