Richard Desjardins retired from the public service after 29 years (2020). Prior, he studied political science, obtaining a Master's Degree in 1991. His studies focused on China, Japan, and Taiwan. He also studied the Chinese language in Taiwan in the mid-1980s. He monitors Canada-China relations and Chinese military developments through various media, including broadcasts on Chinese television.
