CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS – Special Issue: Holistic Well-Being, Hope, and Transformative Practices in Social Work Education, Research, and Practice
This special issue explores the interconnectedness of holistic well-being, hope cultivation, and innovative practices in social work through a critical intersectional lens with the intention of highlighting research-informed approaches that recognize how intersecting social identities shape experiences across education, research, and practice. The journal invites submissions in the following areas:
Holistic Well-being in Social Work
- Strategies for promoting physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
- Exploring intersectional identities (race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, socioeconomic status).
- Addressing vicarious trauma, burnout, and compassion fatigue.
- Developing self-care, mindfulness, and community care approaches.
- Creating inclusive and equitable learning environments.
Cultivating Hope and Resilience
- Theoretical frameworks of hope across diverse cultural experiences.
- Culturally responsive strategies for sustaining hope.
- Navigating systemic barriers while centering individual and community strengths.
- Ethical considerations of hope in social work practice.
- Exploring hope's role in healing and social change.
Innovative Educational Practices
- Developing flexible and responsive teaching and supervision strategies.
- Integrating technology and innovative pedagogies.
- Fostering critical thinking and cultural humility.
Creating meaningful partnerships between academia and practice.
- Prioritizing equity and marginalized voices.
Transformative Field Experiences
- Innovative practicum and supervision models.
- Addressing power dynamics and intersecting oppressions.
- Supporting student resilience and well-being.
- Exploring alternative practicum options.
- Promoting critical self-awareness and reflective practice.
Submissions may be made in form of original manuscripts, brief notes, voices from the field or letters to the editor, and should be received by October 1, 2025. All submissions should be made via the journal’s OJS website at https://journalhosting.ucalgary.ca/index.php/tsw/submission/wizard
