Abstract

This paper presents an autoethnographic reflection of one graduate student’s experience while interning abroad in rural India over the course of three months. Personal stories illustrating specific attitudes are utilized to demonstrate the use of cross-cultural competencies at play during definable circumstances. The author examines and evaluates “success” through the lens of these attitudes and the impending consequences of actions and beliefs. Results of the reflective process include greater personal and professional insights, in addition to clarity of future implications on career and educational pursuits.
