Luther and the Foundations of Literacy, Secular Schooling and Educational Administration

Antecedants and consequences of typography and 16th century Protestant educational reform are outlined to show how curricular innovation led to a bureaucratic discourse of social control. It is argued that compulsory schooling for mass literacy gave rise to the institutionalization of childhood, and to state controlled techniques of normalization and surveillance. Implications for the histories of curriculum and administration are noted.Téléchargements
