In this article we review the constitution of the school and professional counselling (1930-1990) and the disparition of the inspection system (1851- 1964). Those realities have been an important of the transformation that the Quebec society has been going through. This analysis shows the mediation function, that is, the transmission and the cultural and ideological control of the school agents: the counsellors and the school inspectors are seen here as belonging to the intellectual category. The analysis also underlines the relevance of this definition as being responsible for some changes that have taken place in the school system. Finally, we show the place occupied by school agents in social interactions.
