  • Special Issue: Call for Papers on Social Work Field Education

    As a Special Issue, we are inviting articles from scholars, practitioners, field educators and students who are engaged in social work field education and/or social work research with implications for field education. We invite members of the Transforming the Field Education Landscape Project (TFEL) Field Research Scholars Program to submit a contribution to the special issue. Areas of article focus could include various aspects of field education in social work, for instance, innovative approaches to field education, promising and wise practices in field education, challenges and opportunities in field education, impact of field education on social work practice and outcomes, equity, diversity, and inclusion in field education, Indigenous field education, Green Social Work, and transformative field education practices and policies.

    The Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary is excited to announce the launch of a new open access journal, Transformative Social Work, which is live now! This scholarly refereed journal is designed to advance knowledge mobilization in the field of social work, with a future-focused social justice perspective on theory, research, education, practice, and policy.

    The COVID-19 pandemic has introduced substantial global challenges and shifts, with implications for societies including impacts on the delivery of social work. Implications of the pandemic on social workers and the profession of social work may have long-standing impacts which are not yet well understood or documented. As a Special Issue, we are inviting articles that address pandemic-related considerations for social work such as the experiences and impacts of the pandemic on social work and social workers, and lessons learned for professional practice and development in moving beyond the pandemic. Areas of article focus could include, for instance, pandemic outcomes and recovery strategies as well as recommendations for social work and communities more broadly in the event of another pandemic or health emergency.
